Wiesbaden (G) USAFE Armed Forces Day , May 18th , 1969

It was raining and pouring when a group of Dutch aircraft-spotters (Hans was one of them) arrived at Wiesbaden Air Base , Germany on May 18th , 1969. The group was coming from Frankfurt-Rhein. Main AB (see other picture gallery) and intended to be present during an Armed Forces Day at this air transport and communications facility., organized by USAFE.

Due to the continuing rainfall for hours , however , most of the flying programme had to be cancelled : the only activity in the air was a formation-demo, by six Alouette II-helicopters of the West-German Army (in itself interesting enough , of course) and an H-34 helicopter of the U.S.Army dropping paras.

As if to compensate for the weather the organizers composed a very interesting Static Show on the ground with a number of transport and communication aircraft being on display and also some NATO and U.S.Army participants.. The Air Force Communication Service (AFCS) showed some of its Lockheed T-33´s in bright colours which drew most attention.

Soaking wet but nevertheless reasonably satisfied the Dutch group went back to the Netherlands at the end of the day !

    Very Nice!
Next to »75+50«, »75+57« and »75+63« which were the other three Alouette II of HFlgBtl 2?

Greetings from Aachen and stay healthy!
