In August 1976 Hans had the opportunity to pay a two-day visit to the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS NIMITZ during its first deployment to the Mediterranean. Departing from NAS Sigonella Sicily on the 16th he made the flight to the aircraft-carrier in Grumman Greyhound 148148 (only some Super 8 movie images available ) and landed on the ship , which was – as you can imagine – a unique experience , never to forget (!) .The return flight to Sigonella was made in Boeing-Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight 151934 on the following day.giving an excellent view while flying low over the sea and the island of Sicily
On June 23rd , 1979 Florennes Air Base in Belgium opened its gates to the public. As usual the annually organized Air Meeting was impressive with many aircraft on the scene . The Danish Super Sabre on static and the spectacular performance during the air show of a French Navy Crusader and a Portuguese Air Force T-38 Talon are only a few of the highlights to be mentioned.
Having received an invitation from the Base Commander and the C.O. 32nd Tactical Fighter Group , Hans went to Soesterberg Air Base , where an aircraft spotters gathering was organized on June 6th, 1990.
On July 23rd , 1983 Scramble Tours organized a one day return trip to what is known as the biggest Air Show event in Europe : the International Air Tattoo at RAF Greenham Common , U.K.
Hans joined the travel-group and took to the air in NLM City Hopper’s Fokker F-28 Fellowship PH-CHN for a flight from Amsterdam AP (Schiphol) to Southampton , U.K. and onwards by touring car to destination.
The 2014 Open Days of the Royal Netherlands Air Force took place at Gilze Rijen AB both on June 20th and 21st and Hans was present on Saturday the 21st , working his way through the crowd and taking the pictures shown in this gallery.
Different types of NATO-maritime patrol aircraft belonging to several naval air arms were present and on static during the Open Day , that was held at the Dutch Naval Air Station Valkenburg on June 1st , 1990. Especially the Royal Navy was well represented by a Jetstream and two Westland Gazelles of the Pusser’s Pair , which gave a nice air-demonstration. Hans took some pictures and this gallery shows you an impression.
