In the past the Air Shows that were organized above sea off the coast near Scheveningen-Bad were always attractive and a great enjoyment to a large public , both beach-guests and aviation enthusiasts.
On June 5th ,1992 the Dutch Naval Air Service (M.L.D.) celebrated 75 years of navy aviation in the Netherlands with an Open Day and an Air Show at NAS De Kooij .
On July 23rd , 1983 Scramble Tours organized a one day return trip to what is known as the biggest Air Show event in Europe : the International Air Tattoo at RAF Greenham Common , U.K.
Hans joined the travel-group and took to the air in NLM City Hopper’s Fokker F-28 Fellowship PH-CHN for a flight from Amsterdam AP (Schiphol) to Southampton , U.K. and onwards by touring car to destination.
Different types of NATO-maritime patrol aircraft belonging to several naval air arms were present and on static during the Open Day , that was held at the Dutch Naval Air Station Valkenburg on June 1st , 1990. Especially the Royal Navy was well represented by a Jetstream and two Westland Gazelles of the Pusser’s Pair , which gave a nice air-demonstration. In 1989 the Swiss celebrated the 75th anniversary of their Air Force and 25 years of demo-flying with La Patrouille de Suisse. The festivities took place at Sion Aerodrome in Kanton Wallis on June 23rd to 25th including an interesting international air show with both warbirds , civil aircraft and operational military aircraft participating. Hans – while on vacation- travelled all the way by car across the Alps to be present on the 23rd and 24th of June.
In 1988 two Air Shows took place in the Netherlands : one at Deelen Air Base on July 1st , celebrating 75 years of Dutch military aviation and one off-shore at Scheveningen Beach on June 4th. Highlight of the Deelen Air Show was the first performance in the Netherlands of the Swiss demoteam La Patrouille de Suisse , at the time still equipped with Hawker Hunters.
August 31st , 1984 was one day before the actual Open Day took place at Soesterberg AB , the Netherlands and the gates were already open to the public. Hans decided to go there and take a look . The 4 German Phantoms in formation attracted much attention. These are the pictures he made during that day.
The 80th anniversary of the Koninklijke Luchtmacht was celebrated with an Open Day at Eindhoven on July 3rd, 1993.
Amongst the many aircraft especially significant were present the USAF’s F-117 “Stealth”-fighter , the Victor-tanker and a KC-10 . The former East-Block-countries participated with the Hungarian MIG-23 , the Czech Sukhoi SU-25 , the MIG-29 , the Czech L-39 Albatros-trainer and an Antonov AN-12 transport. Interesting helicopter-types being present were a.o. the Polish PZL-Sokol w.3 and the Czech MIL Mi-17.
Thousands of people attended this Open Day and Hans and Frank were also among the crowd.
