In May 2009 Frank visited the Pima A&S Museum in Tucson, Arizona (near Davis Monthan AFB).
In the vicinity of the village of Soesterberg the Royal Netherlands Air Force has its museum; until 2011 they opened the depots for the public once in a year ; these depots are situated at the nearby former air base, where they store the remaining aircraft. Hans and Frank visited the depots in 1994 , 2005 and 2008.
On May 13th , 1988 Hans and Frank paid a visit to the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces in Brussels , Belgium , which houses a large and interesting component devoted to the Air Force. To (partly) solve the lack of space problem in the great exhibition hall , some of the aircraft exposed have been “elevated” or attached to the ceiling to make them look as if they were in-flight. Hans also visited the museum in 1992 and 1997 , while Frank was there again in 1998 to take some more pictures.
When you are in Paris some time, it is also recommendable to pay a visit to the nearby French aviation & space museum at Le Bourget. Hans did so on August 29th , 1990 and here is a photographic impression. A few pictures of a later visit of Frank are added.
On August 27th , 1990 Hans paid a short visit to Brienne-Le Chateau in Northern France , which is an ex-military base ; there were some former French Air Force & Navy aircraft types in open storage ,of which you will find a few pictures here.
A visit to the Burgundy wine castle of Savigny-les Beaunes in France is an experience in itself , but the fact that there are numerous ex-military aircraft on exhibition in the surrounding area , makes a visit even more worth while. Hans did so on August 26th , 1990. At the time the a/c were in a somewhat shabby condition , but still in their original livery. Nowadays most of them have been freshly painted up , so if you are in the neighbourhood : don’t miss this extraordinary collection!
While en-route from the RIAT at RAF Fairford , U.K. back to the ferry-boat in July 1987 , Hans made an overnight-stop to pay a visit to Duxford , U.K. Located there is the Imperial War Museum, which houses a large collection of ex-military aircraft , especially of World War Two-origin. On July 30th , 1979 Hans arranged a short visit to the USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB (near Dayton, Ohio) , while he was on holiday in the U.S.A. ; this photo-report shows some of the pictures he made there.
The Royal Netherlands Air Force Museum (MLM) was established at Soesterberg Air Base in 1968 and moved to a location nearby the village of Soesterberg , called Kamp van Zeist , in 1980 . In this gallery Hans and Frank show you a selection of photographs they made there in the course of time , representing its interesting collection of military aircraft. Dating back to the years 2011 to 2013 also a number of pictures are included , taken in the shelter area of Camp New Amsterdam and in the new housing of the museum at the former air base .
In December 2014 a magnificent , new National Military Museum (NMM) has been opened to the public at the former Air Base . more than worth while visiting !
