(1971) Cambrai (France) Airshow September 1971
“Cambrai airfield is situated in the middle of a hilly, industrialized part of Northern France, some kilometers north of the city of Cambrai. Interesting to know is that you can find another airfield south of Cambrai. This is Cambrai/Nierges, a reserve-base of the FAF
This show was at Cambrai/Epinoy, where the following units are based:
- 12 Escadre de Chasse (12th Fighter Wing) consisting of two Escadrons de chasse (fighter squadrons) and a liaison squadron:
- escadron de chasse I/12 (EC I/12) “Cambresis”, code 12-Y., squadron insignia Tiger/Wasp flying Super Mystere B2s
- escadron de chasse II/12 Cornouaille”, code 12-Z., squadron insignia Scorpion/Doghead, flying SMB2s
- escadron de liaison, code 12-X., flying a mix of Magisters, T-birds, Flamand and Broussard
- Escadron de Bombardement III-93 “Sambre”, equipped with the Mirage IVA.
The two fighter squadrons are equipped with the Super Mystere B2, making Cambrai/Epinoy the only base operating this type of aircrafr together with Creil/Seulis which houses the 10th Escadre de Chasse.
No less than 31 Super Mysteres of the 12th were to be seen in the Open Day area, nicely lined up in front of the public. About 10 of them took off during the flying display which was held in the afternoon.”
