KLu Thunderstreaks: aircraft out of service
The KLu. gradually phased out its Thunderstreaks . Some were broken up , but in 1965 a number of still active aircraft was delivered to Turkey ; in 1970/1971 Greece also received some ex-KLu.-Streaks , but a majority was scrapped.
Only a few escaped and either became gate-guards or monuments ;others were used as eye-catchers (“decoys”) for a while ; some are being preserved by Technical Schools and in Museums.
What the F-84F’s on the pictures in this gallery have in common , is that all of them have been photographed AFTER their operational service. Note that most of the withdrawn aircraft depicted here are not present anymore at the mentioned locations .
