Via this update Hans added 29 (negative & colour-slide)-scans out of his collection to our gallery devoted to the Dutch F-84F in active service .
It concerns pictures of the following Thunderstreaks : P-157 (3 times) , P-172 (4 times) , P-174 ( 2 times) , P-177 , P-179 , P-189 , P-198 (2 times) , P-209 , P-226 , P-230 , P-234 , P-235 ( 2 times) , P-254 , P-259 ( 3 times) , P-261 (2 times), P-262 , P-263 and P-275.

Soesterberg Air Base (NL) , Pre Show Day , September 11th , 1981

On September 11th , 1981 , the day before the actual Open Day at Soesterberg AB (NL) took place , the public had already (limited) access to the field.
Hans likes to show you some pictures that he took , mainly of the Static Show , because flying activities were scarce on this day due to heavy overcast and rainshowers.
The presence of an F-5E Tiger II of the American “Agressors”-squadron , based at Alconbury , U.K. was without any doubt the high-light of the day.

After having dealt with the K.Lu.Open day at Eindhoven AB in September of 1967 , we now show you a selection of black & white pictures , taken by Hans during the second K.Lu. Open Day in that year , which was organized at Soesterberg AB on June 17th.

(2012) Dutch Military Aviation Museum , Soesterberg , March 31st & April 14th

On March 31st and April 14th Hans visited one of the hangars at the former Soesterberg Air Base (NL) in which the new Dutch Military Aviation Museum (MLM) will be housed by the end of 2014. Some of the aircraft , belonging to its collection , are already in storage there , but still in an incomplete condition , such as the refurbished Dutch Navy Lockheed Neptune. Outdoors there was also an exhibition , including – which was especially interesting – the recently from the U.S. acquired F-4E Phantom , nicely painted in the colours of the former Soesterberg-based 32nd TFS , USAFE. The Museum’s F-15 Eagle was also present , freshly re-painted and of course the Breguet Atlantic , acquired from the German Navy.
A selection of pictures , taken during these occasions , has been added to our MLM-gallery.

(1965) Air Show Brustem-St.Truiden , June 27th , 1965

The 1965 Air Show at Brustem-St.Truiden, Belgium was the very first aviation-event attended by Hans (except for the Open Day at Eindhoven AB in 1963 , of which no pictures are available)
The photos in this gallery are of very poor quality , taken with simple camera-equipment , but nevertheless worth while showing. They give you a sense of long ago…!

Eindhoven Air Base (Open Day) , September 8th , 1967

How about a photo-selection taken during the September 1967 Open Day at Eindhoven Air Base ?
You will find it in this new gallery !
Except for the F-102 Delta Dagger of the Soesterberg-based American squadron no foreign aircraft participated in this event . There could have been more planes in the Static Show and the Air Display was limited , BUT to the Thunderstreak-fans it was very attractive , because a number of the resident F-84F’s were in close-view. It was the first air show Hans and Frank visited at the same time. Some of the pictures in this gallery were acquired via swopping with fellow-spotters at the time. (1994) Pila Air Base (Poland), September ‘94

Whilst on a business trip to Poland in September 1994 Frank was invited to visit the (now closed) Pila Air Base of the Polish Air Force; the air force officials were so kind as to show him one of their Pila based Suchoi SU-22 fighters. Presented here are a few photos of this memorable visit.

Soesterberg (NL) , June 12th , 1984 : USAF demoteam The Thunderbirds (F-16’s)
During their European Tour in 1984 the U.S.Air Force’s Flight Demonstration Team The Thunderbirds (F-16’s) also visited Soesterberg Air Base in the Netherlands where they gave a magnificent display on June 12th.
The public had free access to the Base for the duration of the show and many thousands of people watched the team’s flying skills. Hans was one of the spectators and took the pictures in this gallery , although three of the slides used were acquired via swopping with one of his correspondents at the time.

1981 Colmar (F) Open Day

The Open Day at French Air Force Base Colmar, home of the 13th Wing was not very special but featured one of the first public appearances of the Patrouille de France with its new Alpha Jets; the aircraft still wore their civil registrations.

Aircraft Spotters Meeting , Volkel Air Base (NL) , October 19th , 1983

In the afternoon of October 19th , 1983 Hans was invited to attend an aircraft-spotters meeting at Volkel Air Base (NL) , organized by the Public Relations Office.
It was a good opportunity to make pictures of some of the last operational Dutch (T)F-104 Starfighters of 306 squadron, 312 squadron & the All-Weather Flight (CAV) as well as some of the first General Dynamics F-16’s assigned to nr. 311 squadron , K.Lu.
An NF-5B from Eindhoven , a Dutch Navy Orion from Valkenburg and a Bölkow-helicopter also flew by to have a look at what was going on.
This gallery comprises a selection of the pictures taken during this well-spent afternoon 29 years ago .
