The Open Days at Eindhoven AB (NL) in September 1986 were quite representative for those days with various types of NATO aircraft arriving on the 19th and an Air Show on the 20th. Bright weather conditions were an advantage to photographers such as Hans , but keep in mind that this gallery just intends to be an impression of what was going on and that not all participating aircraft have been covered in pictures.
As far as the “Warbirds”are concerned that took part , we refer to our Warbirds Album.

(1975) Leeuwarden Open Day 27 September 1975

A poor open day, mainly due to the very bad weather (as you can see on the photos). After the presentation of 4 NF-5s, a Starfighter, a Troopship and a Magister of the Belgian Red Devils the rest of the show had to be cancelled because of the strong wind. The static was okay though, featuring a.o. a Danish F-100F and RF-35 Draken.

MUSEUM-LINE OPEN DAY GILZE RIJEN AB , JUNE 18th , 1977

A significant part of the static show during the Open Day at Gilze Rijen AB on June 18th , 1977 was formed by a “museum-line” that is to say a line-up of preserved former R.Neth.AF aircraft that nowadays mostly belong to the collection of the MLM (Dutch Military Aircraft Museum) in Soesterberg. Hans made some pictures at the time.

Thunderflashes in active service

Belgian Air Force Thunderstreaks :Out of Service

No fewer than 41 retired Belgian Thunderstreaks were present during our visit to the Storage Facility
at Koksijde AB , Belgium on October 22nd , 1971.
Nearly all of them have now been covered in pictures via this update.
A year later , in September 1972 , some of these aircraft appeared to have been moved to Florennes AB ,
where they acted as “decoys”. Hans took some pictures of them as well.

Alconbury , U.K. , August 1970 (Base Visit & Spotting)

In August 1970 RAF Alconbury , U.K. (now closed) was the home of the 10th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing (USAFE) , equipped with McDonnell RF-4C Phantoms. Hans and Frank both visited the base during that month on different days , via special invitation and as aircraft-spotters. This gallery shows the resulting pictures .

Spanish Air Force Museum, Madrid November 2011

The Museo del Aire -the museum of the Spanish Air Force- is situated a few kilometers south of Madrid, in a corner of Cuatro Vientos AB. It exhibits an impressive and interesting collection that includes rare birds such as the Heinkel HE-111, the CASA build Junkers JU-52 and one of the three aquired Boeing KC-97L Stratotankers, used to do in-flight refuelling of the Spanish Phantoms. And although especially the outside part of the display could use a bit of maintenance/repainting the place is well worth visiting! Frank was in the Museo early November 2011.

Mildenhall, U.K. , August 1970

In August 1970 (on different days) Hans and Frank made a trip to the U.K. to visit several USAFE airbases , both via official invitation and in the quality of aircraft-spotters. This is a photo report , made at RAF Mildenhall at the time. The “PG” and “SR” – coded C-130 Hercules aircraft were on deployment from the U.S.
