BAF Thunderstreaks: aircraft out of service

When Belgium finally said good-bye to its Thunderstreaks , many of them went into open storage
at Koksijde Air Base.
After their stay at the Storage Unit the F-84F’s were sold as scrap and nearly all demolished.
Frank and Hans visited Koksijde on October 22nd , 1971 , right in the middle of the period that the
Streaks were coming in. This gallery contains an overview of what their cameras recorded at the time.
By the way , the Storage Unit also contained some Thunderflashes , a DC-3 and a DC-4.
After their visit to Koksijde , the storage parc was expanded by adding a number of C-119 Packets , Pembrokes etc. Thus it became – as it were- a small Davis-Monthan “European Style” !
In this gallery you will also find some pictures of Thunderstreaks that have been preserved as decoys,
monuments , gate-guards and in museums.
Note that most withdrawn a/c depicted here are not present anymore at the given locations.
