Eindhoven was the city where the authors both grew up and became “real” aircraft-spotters at the nearby air base. They made many pictures there throughout the years often under difficult circumstances ! This gallery contains a selection of these “blood, sweat and tears”-pics taken at Eindhoven (NL). The Eindhoven based Thunderstreaks are not in this gallery, but all in one seperate album. Note that in the 60/70ties Eindhoven AB also had a Base-Flight with Lockheed T-33’s,Harvards etc. You will find some pictures of these aircraft in this gallery.
A few images taken in more recent years are incorporated as well. Eindhoven now houses the transport fleet of the RNethAF (pics are in gallery named “KLu aircraft”).
On July 23rd , 1983 Scramble Tours organized a one day return trip to what is known as the biggest Air Show event in Europe : the International Air Tattoo at RAF Greenham Common , U.K.
Hans joined the travel-group and took to the air in NLM City Hopper’s Fokker F-28 Fellowship PH-CHN for a flight from Amsterdam AP (Schiphol) to Southampton , U.K. and onwards by touring car to destination.
In June 98 Frank (a.o.) was invited to visit 334 squadron, based at Eindhoven. At that time it was the sole KLu transport unit, equipped with the KDC-10 tanker aircraft, the C-130 Hercules. a number of Fokkers and a Gulfstream; apart from the colour schemes, much remains the same today.
In August 1970 (on different days) Hans and Frank made a trip to the U.K. to visit several USAFE -air bases , both via official invitation and in the quality of aircraft-spotters. One of the locations visited was RAF Mildenhall , which was – and still is -the main facility in the U.K. for USAF & USN -air transport operations. The “PG” and “”SR”-coded C-130 Hercules a/c were on deployment from the U.S. at the time. This is a photo-report.
In June 1970 Eindhoven AB saw a flock of Swedish Saab 105s coming in; a group of registered spotters (including Frank and Hans) was permitted to take a closer look. The Saabs were accompagnied by a Dakota and a Hercules and made an overnight stop on their route to the Paris Air Salon.
On July 6th , 1975 an Open House took place at RAF Wildenrath (Germany) again and also this time it attracted many thousands of people , while temperatures were above average. It was interesting enough though with a large Static Show and featuring an alert take-off by an Avro Vulcan. This gallery presents to you a photo-impression made by Frank and Hans.
