On July 5th , 1968 Hans went to Royal Air Force Station Wildenrath , a few miles across the Dutch-German border . He positioned himself near the landing-approach lights and awaited the aircraft and helicopters that were to arrive to attend the two Open Days that were planned there on the next two days.
For the first time Hans visited Leeuwarden AB (NL) as an aircraft-spotter in August 1967. In later years he came back several times. Needless to say it never was easy to picture aircraft in their landing-pattern and otherwise !
In 1989 the Swiss celebrated the 75th anniversary of their Air Force and 25 years of demo-flying with La Patrouille de Suisse. The festivities took place at Sion Aerodrome in Kanton Wallis on June 23rd to 25th including an interesting international air show with both warbirds , civil aircraft and operational military aircraft participating. Hans – while on vacation- travelled all the way by car across the Alps to be present on the 23rd and 24th of June.
In 1988 two Air Shows took place in the Netherlands : one at Deelen Air Base on July 1st , celebrating 75 years of Dutch military aviation and one off-shore at Scheveningen Beach on June 4th. Highlight of the Deelen Air Show was the first performance in the Netherlands of the Swiss demoteam La Patrouille de Suisse , at the time still equipped with Hawker Hunters.
Hans visited Twenthe AB (NL) as an aircraft-spotter for the first time in 1968. During more recent years he came back there several times when there were exercises going on and to photograph arriving aircraft for Open Days. This gallery contains a selection of the pictures , taken by him near Twenthe Air Base (NL).
