The Musee Aeronautique Ailes Anciennes is in the French city of Toulouse and has over 50 aircraft on display. The planes vary in the shape they are: some are fully restored and painted in original colours, while others seem to have been standing in the outside for over 50 years. Frank visited the “Ancient Wings” Museum early september 2013.
The Royal Netherlands Air Force celebrated 100 years of military aviation in the Netherlands & 60 years of K.Lu. with two Open Days, 14&15 June; this event was featuring a lot of warbirds and a fair number of them are depicted in this report.
Pictures of aircraft that have been disposed of or preserved in one way or another ; this gallery deals with airframes photographed in the years 1960-2009. No need to say that the majority of the airframes presented here are no longer present.
The NATO Tiger Meet 2010 took place at Volkel AB; it showed participants from Holland, Belgium, Norway, Turkey, France, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. Hans and Frank attended the Spottersday that was organized on 7 October. (special thanks to EWAS & SGV)
The Spotters Days organized at Kleine Brogel AB in Belgium always are a big attraction to hundreds of spotters and an excellent opportunity to see different types of military aircraft on static and in action. The July 2007 event featured two Hellenic Air Force A-7 Corsair II’s from Greece. Hans and Frank were among the spectators.
In June 1970 Eindhoven AB saw a flock of Swedish Saab 105s coming in; a group of registered spotters (including Frank and Hans) was permitted to take a closer look. The Saabs were accompagnied by a Dakota and a Hercules and made an overnight stop on their route to the Paris Air Salon.
Spanish Air Force Museum Madrid, Spain, November 2011 The Museo del Aire -the museum of the Spanish Air Force- is situated a few kilometers south of Madrid, in a corner of Cuatro Vientos AB. It exhibits an impressive and interesting collection that includes rare birds such as the Heinkel HE-111, the Junkers JU-52 and onr of the three aquired Boeing KC-97L Stratotankers, used to do in-flight-refuelling of the Spanish Phantoms. And although especially the outside part of the display could use a bit of maintenance/repainting it is well worth visiting! Frank was in the Museo early November 2011.
When you are in Paris some time, it is also recommendable to pay a visit to the nearby French aviation & space museum at Le Bourget. Hans did so on August 29th , 1990 and here is a photographic impression. A few pictures of a later visit of Frank are added.
