In 1988 two Air Shows took place in the Netherlands : one at Deelen Air Base on July 1st , celebrating 75 years of Dutch military aviation and one off-shore at Scheveningen Beach on June 4th. Highlight of the Deelen Air Show was the first performance in the Netherlands of the Swiss demoteam La Patrouille de Suisse , at the time still equipped with Hawker Hunters.
In 1995 it was commemorated that 50 year ago World War II ended and therefore Air Base Soesterberg was open to the public from April 29th to May 7th. Each day there were flying activities and demonstrations in the sky , given by a number of Warbirds that were present. Hans made a selective photo-report.
On June 10th , 1971 Hahn Air Base in Germany , which was a USAFE Phantom base at the time , certainly was the place to be. During that Armed Forces Day the USAF’s Flight Demonstration Team The Thunderbirds flying its F-4E Phantoms performed a nice show.
On June 11th and 12th , 1971 a number of (Dutch) aircraft spotters (Hans was one of them) travelled to Ramstein Air Base in Germany to attend the USAFE Armed Forces Day , which also marked the end of the NATO Royal Flush Reconnaissance Meet that was organized there during the weeks before.
On July 6th , 1968 , 50 Years of Royal Air Force was celebrated at RAF Wildenrath in Germany with a great Open House and Air Show and Hans was present to enjoy what was happening and to take a number of black and white pictures.By the way, RAF Wildenrath was one of the bases of RAF Germany and is now closed.
At the Florennes Airshow (Belgium) on 21 June 1975, a couple of warbirds showed up as well: the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane of the Battle-of-Britain Memorial Flight. There was also a Boeing B-17 present carrying a French civil registration. This aircraft became a “real” warbird in later years , painted in USAAF-colours. Hans and Frank were among the spectators.
August 31st , 1984 was one day before the actual Open Day took place at Soesterberg AB , the Netherlands and the gates were already open to the public. Hans decided to go there and take a look . The 4 German Phantoms in formation attracted much attention. These are the pictures he made during that day.
