A visit to an airshow is an excellent opportunity for the spectator to see many aeroplanes together at the same time. The first air displays that we attended took place during the Nineteen Sixties (!) and we still are regular visitors. Throughout the years we have been present during more than 50 air-events and open days inside and outside the Netherlands and here you will find a selective , pictorial overview.
It was raining and pouring when a group of Dutch aircraft-spotters (Hans was one of them) arrived at Wiesbaden Air Base , Germany on May 18th , 1969. The group was coming from Frankfurt-Rhein. Main AB (see other picture gallery) and intended to be present during an Armed Forces Day at this air transport and communications facility., organized by USAFE.
Apart from several excellent demoteams , such as The Turkish Stars , equipped with former Dutch Northrop-Canadair NF-5A/B’s , the Open Days at Volkel Air Base , the Netherlands in June 2007 , featured some interesting Warbird-participants , including two Hawker Hunters from Sweden (ex Swiss Air Force). Special guests on the Static Show came from Poland and – also not very common – was the presence of a U.S.Navy Lockheed Orion.
In June 1969 Hans and Frank visited the Internationale Vliegmeeting at Bierset AB, Belgium, home of the 42nd recce squadron; the open days & air show took place on two days , namely 20 and 21 June 1969 and among the many interesting aircraft to be seen there was a significant U.S.Navy delegation.
