Spanish Air Force Museum Madrid, Spain, November 2011 The Museo del Aire -the museum of the Spanish Air Force- is situated a few kilometers south of Madrid, in a corner of Cuatro Vientos AB. It exhibits an impressive and interesting collection that includes rare birds such as the Heinkel HE-111, the Junkers JU-52 and onr of the three aquired Boeing KC-97L Stratotankers, used to do in-flight-refuelling of the Spanish Phantoms. And although especially the outside part of the display could use a bit of maintenance/repainting it is well worth visiting! Frank was in the Museo early November 2011.
Israel has a very interesting aircraft museum, located in a corner of Hatserim Air Base. Hatserim is in the Negeb desert, some 150 kms south of Jeruzalem. The museum exhibits all types that ever entered service with the Israeli Air Force. Hatserim Airbase also houses a storage centre which is adjacent to the museum. Frank was there in November 2010 and pictured both in the museum as well as some of the aircraft held in open storage.
Star of the 1992 Belgian Air Force Airshow at Florennes AB(12 September), attended by Hans and Frank ,was a Spanish Mirage F1. At Florennes AB the second BAF airshow took place in that year; one week earlier a similar event was organized at Beauvechain AB.
A poor open day, mainly due to the very bad weather (as you can see on the photos made by Frank). After the presentation of 4 NF-5s, a Starfighter, a Troopship and a Magister of the Belgian Red Devils the further show had to be cancelled because of the strong wind. The static was okay though, featuring amongst others a Danish F-100F and RF-35 Draken.
In the seventies the Belgian Air Force organized great annual airshows (they still do, by the way). The 1970 show at Beauvechain AB was remarkable because of the very active presence of 5 Starfighters of the Royal Danish Air Force. Next to that the static provided an extensive overview of the Belgian Air Force of those days.
Photography in Belgium near military airfields and outside the gates and fences was not allowed for many years during the Sixties. The pictures in this gallery represent a selection , taken by the authors in Belgium from early to present days. Also are included some pictures of single ,operational military aircraft , visiting an air-event and taken within the area of an airfield.
