The Empire State Aerosciences Museum is located at Schenectady County Airport in the town of Glenville, NY at the site of the former GE Flight Test Center (“The Empire State” is the nickname of the state of New York, U.S.A.).
The Hampton Air Power Park is an outdoor museum located in the city of Hampton which is near Langley AFB in Virginia, USA. The museum displays a nice collection of rockets (such as a Mercury capsule and a Polaris missile) and cold war aircraft; the visitors centre holds an impressive collection of aviation-related memorablia. Frank vistied the Hampton Air Power Air Park & Museum in May 2012.
AMARC, the Aerospace Maintenance And Regeneration Center is a huge storage and maintenance facility; it is located on an edge of Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona. Frank visited the “boneyard” in May 2009.
The May 2012 MCAS Cherrypoint Air Show featured -next to many modern aircraft- a lot of warbirds: airworthy civilian aircraft that are painted to represent military planes from the past. A few highlights: the West Texas Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) presented the world’s only flying example of the SB2C Helldiver. Also from the CAF was the P-51C Mustang of the Tuskegee Red Tail Squadron: the all African American 332d Fighter Group.
The carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10) was in service with the US Navy till 1970; since 1975 it is in use as a museum in the Charleston (South Carolina) harbour, hosting a large number of retired US Navy aircraft on both the flight deck and the hangar deck. Frank was in Charleston on 2 May 2012 and visited the USS Yorktown then.
The Hickory Aviation Museum has s a (nicely restored) collection of cold war fighter planes, brought together by a group of aviation enthusiasts of Hickory (a small town in North Carolina). Aircraft sitting in this museum are originals: e.g. Corsair 154345 that is on display is the real 154345 that flew with VA43 “Marauders” on board USS America in the late sixties! The origins of the F-5 are questionable though; it appears to have a Swiss wing. The museum, located at Hickory Regional Airport was established in 2007. Frank visited the place on 30 April 2012.
The USS Intrepid has a weight of over 40.000 tons, is over 300 metres long and served as an aircraft carrier in the USNavy from 1943 till 1974. The ship is now anchored in the New York harbour and houses the Air-Sea-Space museum: a remarkable collection of aircraft from several nations and decades. (This gallery courtesy Tim Klaassen)

On July 30th , 1979 Hans arranged a short visit to the USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB (near Dayton, Ohio) , while he was on holiday in the U.S.A. ; this photo-report shows some of the pictures he made there.
